Interview with a Star - Yuliya (YuliyaArt)

Take a look at YuliyaArt shop on Etsy.

Mystique, beautiful, unique, surreal - that's how I would describe Yuliya's digital art. I can look at her painting for hours making my own story of what I see. I always wonder about the artist's point of view. What's behind it? Where did she get her ideas? How did she do such complex work?

I thought my readers might be curious, too, so I contacted Yuliya and asked her some questions.

Please welcome, Yuliya from YuliyaArt!

Q: Please tell us a little bit about yourself
A:
My name is Yuliya, I love creating, looking at the watermelons and big windows.

Q: How long have you been creating? How did your journey in art and creativity begin?
A:
It began when I was born. My parents are saying I was born with pencil in my hands: as long as I can remember I was always drawing, creating and inventing things.

Q: How would you describe your style? Have any other artists influenced your style?
A:
My style formed by itself, I have noticed that I cannot influence my art anyhow: it feels as if it has it's own character and develops on it's own, I am just a messenger :)

The closest word to describe it would be surreal I guess. The most I love to draw traditionally on paper with acrylic paint and ink. The uniqueness of my artworks is that I do not use pencil or a sketch: I start with a plain paper with ink pen from the line and artwork grows and develops by itself, this is the magic I love the most in it! That is why I call this style Linear Magic. Other favorite techniques of mine are creation of digital photo manipulations and take photographs of my favorite things with my dream camera gifted to me by my husband.

I recently discovered passion for beaded jewelry creation with sparkly Swarovski crystals and Japanese beads and learned to crochet and create tatted lace.

Q: What is the most important about your work?
A:
Enjoyment it gives me :) I am in love with the process itself!

Q: What inspires you and what is the day in your studio look like?
A:
I do not believe in inspiration actually. I constantly work on developing my talent and skills, basically every hour of a day I am not asleep I am working. It excites and attracts me, if I had to make a pause for some reason, I start feeling not well :)

Q: What are your main sources of inspiration?
A:
Though I do not believe in it, it still finds me everywhere I go, it easily can be a color, smell, word, thought, touch, smile, move. Too much! Sometimes I am not able to process all ideas I have in daytime and they follow me in sleep, ideas come and live by themselves. I often wish I could have more hours a day and more hands... Or have a twin :)

Q: What is currently inspiring you?
A:
My dreams

Q: What is the best reaction you have gotten from one of your pieces?
A:
The best? Some of the reactions have made me smile, I have been named Modern Queen Of Surrealism and that Creativity is my middle name :)

Thank you so much, Yuliya, I am definitely a big fan of your work!
