Talking of lizards, I just remember a very good tip I found
online last year. There are a sticky pads offered by pest control companies to
get rid of bugs and spiders. It is so sticky that you can not free yourself
once you touched it. The lizards don't know this, so when they are going to eat
the bugs on a sticky trap they can get stuck, too.
So, if it will ever happen, do not try to free the lizard by pulling it off the pad, EVER! Their skin is thin and fragile. Instead, get the sticky pad with a lizard to a flat surface in the garden, place a very shallow plastic container underneath. Pour some vegetable oil in a small container and have a table spoon ready. Wear a protective gloves if you want. Hold the sticky paper with a lizard a bit up at the head area that oil would not get into the mouth or the eyes. With the table spoon, start pouring the oil on the paper at the lower body area first and continue until you free the animal completely. Lizard will run away as soon as it can so hold your paper next to the ground.

I found this tip very useful. Whatever we humans do, it has
good and bad sides, so it's nice to know how to help to reduce the negative
effect on nature.

This works very well, but I also used a swab to gently work the oil under the lizard. When the oil came to close to its face, I was able to wipe it with another cotton swab. Thank you for this information, wonder if it would work on birds. Years ago, I had to kill a bird who got stuck in a sticky trap. Sooo sad.

With a bures you will have to bring it to the vets i fear. Because oil makes them.unable to fly... Im.oretty sure... Maybe in wrong.
Tried to sace one just now from sticky trap glue i hope it will survive. I don't have a heat lamp or anything that would keep him warm apart from.outside. as i live in Spain. But only couple.of hour of sun left. But at least i got it outside. Of the sticky floor. Because of the oil advice. Thanx

OMG! IT WORKS!! I just freed a gecko. I'm so stoked. I actually found this gecko at my dads house when he passed. Brought it home and had about 7 of them at one point. Lost all but 2. Freed them last summer and one found a sticky trap. I was really sad. Didnt want to lose him. Hes now free. Thanks so much.

Just rescued a little green anole from a sticky fly trap. Unfortunately his friend didn't survive. I used corn cooking oil in tepid water and a q-tip. Worked quickly and beautifully. I am so glad you posted this article! I put the yellow sticky pad by a planter for the first time yesterday evening. This morning I found a young lizard stuck on it instead. This method worked so easily and the lizard came off loose without any harm! I used cotton swab. Thank you so much!
Thank you for the wonderful advice! I had a little green anole that I just found attached to a sticky pad. I was able to work him loose with vegetable oil and toothpicks! It took about an hour, but it was worth it to see him run off! Thank you!

This was really helpful, if the lizard is really stuck dip a cutip (or something with a soft end) in oil, my little skink had his head stuck on one side of the sticky trap and his body stuck to the bottom, after this trick he ended up walking away perfectly fine! Good luck guys
Thanks for this post! Just freed a small green anole from a citrus leafminer trap using avocado oil and q-tips. I put screens over the entrance holes of my next trap to keep this from happening again.
Went to an older sticky trap and found the smell and Lucky for the Skink, got there in time. I touched him and his head rose up. Knowing it was alive, quickly looked up How To remove a lizard from a Sticky trap and You Saved it!! I just did the Olive oil and Carefully used a plastic fork to get oil around its tail then let it work its feet loose as not to tear off it tiny Toes!
It's now in our Meal worm bin with all sizes of Worms from newborn to morphs and beetles. Nice Fix👍👍

I am so thankful for this blog! I successfully saved 2 baby lizards from glue traps today. Unfortunately, I tried to help before reading this and one lost a tail, but he survived and it should grow back shortly. I will have to remember the cotton swab tip if this ever happens again.

Just used this tip to save a little lizard that ran from the garden into our garage and got stuck in a glue trap. Thanks for posting this!!
Just rescued a tiny baby about an inch long. The q-tip trick helped too! Thank you all! I kept him in a container for about 5 minutes and then once he was a little bit more active I let him go outside.
I forgot to mention in the last comment, it was so helpful to start at the tail. I don't know that I would have thought to do that. I was able to make sure each body part was loose before I moved up to the next one. I also wet the whole section of sticky trap so that it wouldn't restick. And to make it easier I cut as small of a square as I could around the baby so that I didn't have a giant sticky trap to work with. I dipped my scissors in oil so that they wouldn't stick. Thank you.

While I was working to free the first anole via the vegetable oil tip, a second anole jumped on the fly paper! (I guess they were attracted to the buzzing flies). The oil worked like a charm after 5-10 minutes!

I am so grateful for your post. Thought I got rid of all the sticky traps my hubby set but must have missed one as I just found it with a mama lizard and a baby. I followed all the hints here and voila..free! Then I set to work on freeing the baby. I honestly didn’t think they would make it, they were so tiny… but they did and both have been set free!! I’m so happy. Thank you for posting this very helpful advice!

it works! i just freed a lizard. i was so scared of it tbh. i use double sided tape to trap flies but somehow today, a lizard was also trap in it. maybe it was trying to eat the fly stuck in the tape and also get stuck in it. so glad it worked out. i don't want a dead lizard near my desk and it also helps to lessen the flies around my room.

Thank you so much ❤️ I didn’t realise lizards could get trapped on fly sticky traps. I noticed two lizards today and it was so sad. It was too late for one poor things. But one looked like it only recently got stuck. Immediately googled how to unstick and your post came up. Your instructions were super clear and to the point. Little guy was kind of twisted with his tail. I wasn’t sure if I could save him. Got to work and also used q-tips dipped in the oil to gently tease each little part off. He was excited to get off! We used olive oil so named him Olive ��. He got free!! No injuries and the tail stayed on him too! I was so so happy. He was such a sweetie - didn’t run away he stayed on my hand and climbed up my arm/top for a bit. I was able to get him to rest in a container with dirt before released him. Just to give him a chance to regain energy. Released him towards evening time, it’s summer so hoping he will be okay. I watched him for a while and he made his way up a small shrub. The one that had already died, I got him unstuck too and did a little burial for him.
The surviving one seemed quite happy and had full mobility. I’m so glad I was able to save him, thank you again so much for this post. It has made my day. I hope you have a wonderful day.
This even works for the plastic sticky cards too! I was worried because it wasn’t paper based it wouldn’t dissolve the glue, but a little time & yes it works! Now to figure out how to keep my dog from chasing the lizards 🤓
I woke up and found a poor lizard stuck ina roach trap that I bought. It killed me inside. I couldnt allow it so just sit there and die. YOUR ARTICLE AND YOUR COMMENTS HELPED ME SAVE IT!! I just saved a lizard about 7" long and it took less than 5 minutes. As I freed the tail and each leg, I slid a piece of paper under it to keep him from getting stuck again. Worked like a charm. Thanks
