I know summer is just starting but it is always cold somewhere! Besides, it is never too early to start on Christmas shopping :)

We spend our spring working on new assortments of hand knit product for the coming Fall and Winter. There are so many pretty colors and cool yarns! I just wish we would have more time to work even harder. Hand knitting takes a long time but it's totally worth it!

What's new at Socksandmittens/ Inspired by Renaissance Fair. Spring 2015

This year we've got lots of new pretty yarns in alpaca, wool, cashmere and cotton. Some of yarns are even hand spun and hand dyed! Many of these we bought in small quantities so this coming season for us will be filled with OOAK items. The yarns are gorgeous and every one of these has a different feel. Every pair of gloves we made from these we are trying to bring the best qualities of yarn.

For example, this pair was knit from the yarn I bought during Renaissance Festival here in Phoenix:

The wool came from the lovely alpaca farm in Tuscon, AZ area. It was hand spuned there and later dyed with alkanet root. The dye gave it such a pretty lavender grey color! I also love that the yarn has un even thickness so the gloves we made have a very pretty texture.

We had chance to see how these yarns are made so it was so inspiring. I am almost ready to experiment with natural dyes myself!

The medieval festival gave us another idea, too. Historically, the clothing people wore were mostly made with single colors you can find in nature and the simple patterns were used. So we create a couple of new patterns for men's fingerless gloves for our shop. This pair has a longer ribbed cuff:

This pair seems to be simple but it has some different finishing touches:

Despite the simple look, they are not easy to make but I am really happy with how the gloves turned out. They are made in modern time for modern people but they still have this wonderful rustic feel in them!

The other yarns we got are also gorgeous and we are happily working on our new projects. We will probably list the warmer items at the end of summer but please visit our socksandmittens shop any time to see if there is anything you like to order or purchase a ready made item. 

What's new at Socksandmittens? July 2013

It has been a very busy summer for us. We are making more pretty items for you to wear this Fall and Winter or to give as gifts.

Since we are taking short trips from time to time we are not listing much at this time but wait until the middle of August! We are making new designs and more of the existing ones that are loved by many.

This year we will be adding some more crochet items,  cowls and scarves. We are also working on seasonal holidays items for the home and warm knits to wear.

Knit cotton cuffs

These cuffs are simply wonderful. We made them thinking of a sunny summer and vacation but when we prepare to do a photo shot the wedding dress idea came out.It turned out to be a perfect accessory for the wedding outfit! With yarn available in many colors it will mach any dress.We are also working on other patterns and are excited about many of our ideas. The best part, you can wear them with any outfit you want during the year!The model you see here is also embellished with vintage buttons. I bought them a long time ago during my trip to Europe. I was hoping to make a nice something for myself but it turned out I never used them. I hope you like how they look.

It's getting cold again and it's time to think of warm things to keep you nice and toasty through the fall and winter.Freezing winds and frost are not your best friends! Your skin will thank you for the care and with good glycerin based lotion you put on. While outside you should have something to protect your hands and neck from harmful cold and wind. Don't forget to wrap your head & ears, too!With our glove and scarf selection you might find this job very easy. Simply check our shop selection to find the one you like or our sold items section to see if anything there might be what you want. We can make it again :) ! If you want different colors we can do that too, no problem.Don't forget about the coming Holidays. The Christmas and winter holidays are the best time to give handmade or hand knit gifts to family members and friends. It shows that you care!

Halloween at Socksandmittens

We do not have a big selection of Halloween items in our Socksandmittens shop this year.

Just a couple of cute black & orange knitted sock (remember, each witch MUST have a pair like these!) ......and long orange Halloween stocking (which will hold a generous amount of candy :))
The long black & orange striped scarf is perfect for the office Halloween party or just for everyday wear any time of year.

It is cute, you can wrap it however you want and even use it as a belt if you fancy.
